The current tug of love for Spurs full back Danny Rose is symbolic.

In particular it symbolises the struggle for the ‘second tier’ Premier League clubs like Liverpool, Tottenham, Everton and West Ham to be truly spoken of in the same breath as the established ‘big four.’
While Spurs have benefitted hugely financially from the turnover of stars like Gareth Bale, as they look to cement their status as genuine Premier League champions they need to be holding on to players like Rose.
The lure of Madrid’s galacticos is perhaps an understandable fight to graciously withdraw from but I doubt Spurs fans will be too enamoured with trading England’s best left back for Luke Shaw.
